New Orleans has made Mardi Gras a family friendly party that draws a ridiculous number of visitors to the city, a gathering which continues despite economic pitfalls and natural catastrophes.

Sidewalk greens and street parking areas are transformed into open cooking areas and outside decks by families, holding pre parade festivities, and socializing with other locals. Alcoholic beverages, grilled food, hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, cold salads, fried chicken and deserts happen to be typical dinning features.

Festivities last until late evening hours, when the most illusory displays take place. Among the most appreciated exhibitions is the rumbling and booming of snare drums combined with grand torches flaming their way through the parade path.
