Best Destinations For A Wildlife Holiday

Wildlife holidays are lots of fun if you go somewhere with a lot of animals to see. The Galapagos Islands are a great destination for people who want to go on an active wildlife holiday. These islands have some beautiful animals and creatures that can be found nowhere else in the world.

Most people don’t realise but wildlife holidays can also be good active holidays. For those with a passion for walking holidays going to the Galapagos Islands can be a great holiday destination. You will also find an array of additional activities available if you fancy do something a little more than walking. Horse riding as well as many water sports are available for those who like the more adventurous side of things.

You will find the Galapagos Islands situated 525 miles off the coast of Ecuador. Listed as a UNESCO world heritage site the Galapagos Islands contain some truly astonishing species of wildlife. The population of the islands is 23,000 and the main language spoken is Spanish.

Here are some of the creatures you can expect to see on a visit to the Galapagos Islands:

Galapagos Tortoises have 14 different species, which can be differentiated by the length of their necks. Although recently 3 of these species became extinct.

The sea turtle called the pacific green sea turtle is the only sea turtle you will find that lives on the Galapagos Islands. Going in the early part of the year allows you the opportunity to see these amazing animals laying their eggs in the sand.

You can find many different lizards on the Galapagos Islands and even one that lives in the ocean. The others can be found on land eating cactus plants.

You may think it unusual to find penguins on a place such as the Galapagos Islands but they are there. The penguins of the Galapagos Islands are the only penguins to be found near the equator line.

On you travels to the Galapagos Islands there will be many more amazing species of animals to be seen.
