Nordic Walking – When and Where by Lotte Golz
With the world being so health conscious, additional people are paying attention to the many benefits to be gained from Nordic walking . For your personal security , there are some precautions that you must take, just in case you encounter someone who does not have noble intentions on you while you are doing your Nordic walking. This is specially important if you usually do your Nordic walking by yourself , as this can make you even more of a potential target.
One of the best things that you can do , is to to tell someone that you are going out for your Nordic walking, and which way you are planning to take. This way, if you are not back within a reasonable amount of time, they can come to look for you. Take your dog with you if you have one, as he will benefit from the exercise, and may discourage unwanted company.
Do not take a lot of unnecessary items with you at the time you do your Nordic walking. Do not take your wallet, and leave behind any jewelry , at home. If you like better to listen to music while you are Nordic walking, you must use an inexpensive radio, something that no one would be likely to want. If you carry your cell phone with you (recommended), put it in your pocket out of view, and put it on vibrate mode, so it does not draw attention to you when it makes noise.
Attempt not to get into a routine way every day . For example, do not Nordic walk at the same time, and at the same location daily. This will make it more difficult for someone to plan an attack, as they will not know your schedule or where you will be. Not to make you paranoid , but a lot of assaults and robberies are planned well ahead of time , using the victim’s schedule in order to know when to strike.
Do not be tempted to walk in remote, concealed places. Prefer instead big public places
which are open in every direction. You never know who can be hiding and at the end of a passage or behind a dumpster, so it is recommended to stay away from those and other like areas on the whole.
If you do your Nordic walking when it is dark outside, be sure you only go in areas that have plenty of light and people around. Keep out from deserted parking lots, dark sidewalks, etc.
There are much less chances to get harmed if there are observers around to see.
If you walk on the street , you should walk facing the oncoming cars , rather than with it. By facing traffic, you can see what is coming for you, and act correctly.
When you are Nordic walking, all the times keep an eye out for what is near you. If you see any person who seems suspicious, then you are better off , to cancel your Nordic walking for this day, and go home, or even better yet, to a public place, such as a grocery store or mall. If you do listen to music at the time you are Nordic walking, do not have the volume up so loud that you can not listen to the sounds around you.
While you may never be the victim of a violent crime, and may be sure that you live in an area where crime ever occurs , you still can not go wrong by learning and practicing some preventative measures.
